Ambient air
is compressed in an air-cooled compressor, that can either be
integrated to the generator, or be as a separate compressor.
Compressed air, free from moisture and oil, is led into the unit, and
flows through the carbon molecular sieve (CMS) beds, where oxygen,
carbon dioxide, moisture and some hydrocarbons are adsorbed, and a
stream of clean, dry, high purity nitrogen gas leaves the adsorber
beds to a storage tank. During the CMS beds regeneration period, when
the beds are depressurized to ambient pressure, nitrogen is taken from
the tank. The technology is called pressure swing adsorbtion (PSA).
The adsorption / desorption cycle is controlled by a microprocessor
controller. Nitrogen flow and purity are factory set prior to shipment
of the system, to meet customers
requirements.
